#38 in the Northwest Book, June 13, 2010; Moderate – 1.8 miles round trip, 600 feet elevation gain.
Once more unto the rock. This climb included Becky, Ben, Will, Lucy (in the Kelty), Liz, Jeff and Laney.
We returned to Beacon Rock, but this time to climb to the rock itself. Despite this trail’s brevity, it’s fairly popular, and has its own parking lot and restroom. The trail starts off with an easy uphill slope:
…then quickly establishes an tone of steep switchbackiness, which doesn’t relent until the summit. As we saw before, this entire trail was carved out of the rock by one man in the early 20th century.
Upon reaching the summit, we attempted the difficult and prestigious 7-person self-shot. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say we succeeded beyond expectations.
